![]() My two cents overall: if you enjoy escape rooms, puzzles, exploring and lore (which the Myst series has in abundance) the games are still great casually. The transition to the 360 degree renders was really cool, especially on the heels of Riven, and Brad Dourif does really good with the character Saavedro. Both games were made when no consumer graphics processor had a prayer of rendering worlds in real 3D and the level of detail that Cyan wanted.Įxile is arguably the easiest game in the series, but that makes it far more approachable, and for my money, it is one of the most enjoyable in the whole lineup. Riven still looks good, even today, and it far outstrips most other games from 1997 in terms of visuals. Myst LOOKS dated, but to do it justice you really need to compare it to other games from 1993, and then its achievement and status in video game history makes sense. The Book of Miriam is being moved off the back burner!Īgreed.Further ahead, Cyan has plans for a new MYST game!.Rand said it would maintain continuity with the URU universe. The story is supposed to take place in present day, as in now. Though it was somewhat jokingly, Rand said "Watch it on Netflix in a year!" I doubt that's the time span, since he asked if the fans would be willing to conduct a write-in campaign for the series, saying "that may be what it takes." If anything, he sounds committed. A full pilot for the MYST TV series has been written and edited extensively by Rand and Ryan Miller- they seem to intend to retain as much creative control as they can, which is a plus for all of us.After Firmament, Cyan will be returning to the MYST series to remake Myst and Riven (in Unreal Engine, most likely) so that they can have the "definitive edition." The new Riven's development will be done in partnership with the Starry Expanse team. There was a brief VR demo of Firmament, but as with many of their brainchilds, Cyan does not give out plot or gameplay details ahead of release.īut OTHER things were announced by Rand Miller (one of the original Myst creators and CEO of Cyan Worlds), and I will shamelessly borrow the writeup by /u/Herr_Red on the Myst subreddit: MIRC IRC client to be used with speedrunsliveĬolloquy Mac IRC client to be used with speedrunsliveĬommunity Speedrunning Websites Message the Moderators! r/SequenceBreak for glitching help and tutorials. ![]() In short, AI quotes are readily able to be insidiously used. They can seem to attest to wild or unproven contentions, despite the fact that the quote or the greater context does nothing of the kind. A reader that you are trying to inform and also engage can be hooked by using the right kind of AI notable quote.Īll I’m getting at is that AI quotes can be bandied around and used in disturbing ways. Also, most of the notable AI quotes are rather catchy. This helps to show that it isn’t your opinion alone that is making the stated claim. If you are trying to justify or bolster a claim being made about AI, having a juicy and relevant quote from an outstanding source can be crucial. Using notable AI quotes can indeed be quite useful. Some might misconstrue my foregoing warning as an indication that AI notable quotes should never be used. I trust that you’ll be wary of those manipulations on a go-forward basis. Exploit the AI quote far beyond its scope.Aim for shock value or immediate acquiescence about the AI contention. ![]() Omit context and do not proffer alternative AI quotes.Pretend that the AI quote is irrefutable and ironclad.Cherry-pick an AI quote to fit a preferred stance. To give you a heads-up and arm you to be on your guard, here are the sneaky shenanigans that are apt to be used when leaning into AI quotes: Yet the large context of the quote might have either greater nuances or might actually be somewhat kilter of the seeming essence being portrayed by the excerpted or extracted quote. By plucking one line out of some deeply reasoned theories about AI, there is an appearance of respectability, especially if the quoted source is a well-known figure in the AI field. The troubling aspect is that these quotes are at times taken out of context and used in rather suspect ways. You might be somewhat surprised at the deeper meaning of each of the popularized quotes.Īll such quotes about AI are considered to be AI Ethics raising in the sense that the quotes are driving forward on some specific assertion about AI. I do so to share with you an insider perspective on what the oft-cited quotes are trying to convey. In a moment, I’ll go ahead and unpack some of the most famous quotes about AI. If the narrative aims to make AI appear to be golden, the uplifting quote will get accolades while the ominous quote will be disparaged. Even in that case, the chances are that the author will try to bolster one side over the other. There are some occasions where a discussion might encompass both such quotes, trying to do a compare and contrast. Meanwhile, a piece about the excitement and thrill of AI is likely to go with a quote about AI transforming humanity in the most uplifting of ways. An article addressing dire concerns about where AI is headed would almost certainly shape itself around the downer quote about AI. AI quotes are customarily chosen for their purpose at hand. ![]() Things you buy through our links may earn us a commission. We’re recommending these products because we actually use, and like, them. Whether you’re just curious about oat-based frozen desserts or already consider them a dairy-free godsend, here are the best ones we’ve tried, from chocolate-covered bars and a nostalgic strawberry pint to a standard oat flavor and a surprisingly great brownie-and-raspberry swirl. Artisan ice bar made with Van Leeuwens original vanilla bean ice cream, a thick swirl of caramel, all dipped in a coat of milk chocolate. ![]() The best ones are creamy but not too heavy, and they don’t have that chalky consistency you may remember from earlier iterations of oat milk ice cream. Thankfully, it’s much easier to find oat milk frozen desserts now, and there are plenty of new varieties that are actually worthwhile. Brooklyn-based Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, recognized nationally for its from-scratch dairy and vegan ice creams, announced the launch of Van Leeuwen Ice Cream Bars on Thursday. When cult-favorite brand Oatly first announced their ice creams, the pints were so coveted that people made Google sheets detailing which stores kept it in stock. ![]() Oat milk ice cream has undergone a similar transformation. Just a short while ago, we’d settle for whatever oat milk we could find, but now there are so many options that oat milk requires its own section at the store (and people have fiery opinions about their favorite brands). Dark brown sugar oat milk ice cream with cookie dough, golden brown oat crumble and brownies. Van Leeuwen Ice Cream Bars are now available in packs of four online and will be available in US stores from March, including Whole Foods and Central Market.Oat milk has come a long way in the last few years - from the alt coffee creamer your vegan friend asked for at brunch to a ubiquitous presence in coffee shops and grocery stores. Vegan brown sugar and cinnamon ice cream with churro pieces and swirls of chocolate fudge. The new line comes after Van Leeuwen raised $18.7 million in a Series B funding round last year, with the aim to open new scoop shops and expand wholesale distribution. The new bars join the brand’s portfolio of dairy-based ice creams and non-dairy desserts such as Sicilian pistachio, pumpkin cinnamon roll and pineapple coconut cookie, made with either oat or cashew milk. Van Leeuwen Ice Cream Bars are said to be a nostalgic addition to the brand’s product line as co-founders Pete and Ben Van Leeuwen grew up driving an ice cream truck in the summer and selling ice cream on sticks. Meanwhile, the non-dairy frozen desserts feature an oat milk base and include vanilla wildberry swirl, brown sugar honeycomb and triple chocolate swirl. The line was inspired by classic favourites and includes dairy-based vanilla caramel swirl, toffee brown sugar and raspberry cheesecake. Van Leeuwen Ice Cream has released a new line of premium ice cream bars in the US, made up of three dairy and three vegan flavours. However, they are relatively high in saturated fat and sugar, but with their rich, depth flavors, a little goes a long way in satisfying an ice cream craving. ![]() Rainbow Fish and the Storyteller: About lies and exaggeration. You Can't Win Them All, Rainbow Fish: About fairness and good sportsmanship.Good Night, Little Rainbow Fish: About the love between mother and child.Rainbow Fish Discovers the Deep Sea: About modesty and happiness.Rainbow Fish Finds his Way: With the help of his new friends, Rainbow Fish finds his way back home. The Rainbow Fish and the Sea Monsters' Cave: About irrational and rational fears.Rainbow Fish and the Big Blue Whale: About arguments and how to settle them.Rainbow Fish to the Rescue!: About the acceptance and integration of foreigners. There are sequels in the Rainbow Fish book series: And then I began thinking about the story, and I came up with the idea of a colorful fish." Book series Then one day, I had a copy of The Sleepy Owl by my desk, and I looked closely at that character, and I realized I could create a fish character that would be quite similar to the owl. But I really didn’t want to draw another bird. So I thought that if a new book was to have something in common with that book, the character should resemble an owl. In an interview with Publishers Weekly, Pfister said, "Well, I had published some other books after The Sleepy Owl – there were some Christmas books and Penguin Pete – but Brigitte Sidjanski, founder of NordSud, had always liked my first book, and suggested I do another book similar to that. The Rainbow Fish was developed from another book Pfister had previously illustrated, The Sleepy Owl. So we decided that I’d get only 50% of my usual royalties for the book, and only that way was it possible to make it work." With the cost, it was quite difficult for Davy to decide whether to do the foil. Because of the foil, each copy of the book cost double the amount of the normal price of producing a book. Pfister says in an interview, "The expense was a big issue. At that time, Marcus Pfister suggested using holographic foil for the scales, a technique used in graphic design but not yet seen in children's books. ![]() The Rainbow Fish was originally published in 1992. Its central theme is about the importance of sharing with others and how that leads to happiness. The Rainbow Fish is finally happy even though he shared all his scales and only had one shiny scale left.Ī Publishers Weekly reviewer called the book a "cautionary tale about selfishness and vanity". Soon, everyone in the ocean has one shiny scale, including The Rainbow Fish. Very soon, the Rainbow Fish is surrounded by the other fish requesting scales and he shares one of his shiny silver scales with each of them. With that one shiny scale gone, he immediately feels much better. When he encounters the little blue fish for a second time, The Rainbow Fish shares one of his precious silver scales and sees the little fish's joy. The Rainbow Fish tries to say that he cannot share his favorite scales, but Wanda disappears in a cloud of ink. She continues that he might no longer be the most beautiful fish after that, but he will discover how to be happy. Then, she gives The Rainbow Fish her advice: He must share his scales with the other fish. ![]() Then she explains that the waves have told her his story. Wanda (in a deep voice) says that she has been waiting for him. When he goes to the cave where she lives, he sees Wanda the octopus. His only remaining friend, the starfish, tells him to go visit the wise octopus (named Wanda in the TV series) for advice. The small blue fish tells all the other fish that The Rainbow Fish was being rude, and as a result, the other fish do not want to play with him any more. The Rainbow Fish refuses in a rude manner. One day, a small blue fish (named Blue in the TV series) who envied the shiny silver scales asks the Rainbow Fish if he could have one of his. However, they wish that they had shiny silver scales just like Rainbow Fish. The other fish from his shoal also have scales, but only scales matching to their real colors. Interspersed with these colorful scales are shiny, holographic scales which are his favorites. He has blue, green, purple, and pink scales. ![]() The story is about a small rainbowfish with shiny, multi-coloured scales. Decode Entertainment turned the story into an animated television series of the same name, which aired on the HBO Family television channel in the United States and Teletoon in Canada from 1999 until 2000. The book is best known for the distinctive shiny foil scales of the Rainbow Fish.
